| This was the
first fairly dependable fountain pen, although it was a stylographic type.
Duncan MacKinnon was a Canadian who developed the idea and along with help
from Francis C Brown, the pen was offered for sale around 1878. It was
a gravity fed pen with a screw valve at the back end to regulate ink flow.
The use of the chased hard rubber tubular barrel became the blue print for
all pen companies of the next 20 years. Mark Twain
used one of these for years with mixed results and lots of cursing.
The company went bankrupt in 1884. |
