Seth Sears Crocker was born in 1849 and was the son of a seaman/blacksmith. He
worked various jobs such as being a railroad clerk and a grammar teacher
before he settled on
making fountain pens. Crocker started the Crocker Pen Co in the late 1890s. He
sold high quality eyedropper fill and blo-filler pens. By 1900 he was
employing 2 of his sons as traveling salesmen. His one son Seth Chilton
Crocker would go to New York and start the SC Crocker pen company by 1906.
SS Crocker was a inventor and designed pens and filling systems. Later he
would market a hatchet filler pen which was just his version of a lever
filler. There is a lot of confusion about Crocker , mainly because of SC
Crocker naming his company Crocker also. It appears the SC Crocker failed
in his bid to start a pen company after a few years and returned to Mass
possibly bankrupt. He later took over the original Crocker Co in the
1920s. I believe there were at least 2 Crocker Pen companies operating at
the same time.
