Filling system:
eyedropper fill
This is a great example of an Aikin Lambert stylographic pen. This pen was
sold in 2 colors, the black pen was called the Ebony Beacon and the red
one the Red Beacon. I would guess that most of these were made in black or
the red ones have a very low survival rate. I think today, you may find
one in red for every few hundred you will find in black. It appears the
the needle point is stuck in the tip, so you will have to remove the old
one and install a new wire if you plan on using it. Very few of these pens
had clips and the short ALCO clip gives it a great look. The ALCO clip was
introduced between 1905 and 1910, so that would be the earliest date this
could be from, but I believe they may have still been selling these in the
1920s. |

Filling system:
eyedropper fill
This is a nice example of a Sterling middle joint eyedropper made for
Rexall. It does have oxidation but it is basically still black. Rexall
probably was buying other non-pen products from Davidson Rubber for their
stores, so it was probably a Davidson salesman that talked Rexall into
buying some pens. This may have been their first fountain pen sold under
their own name. The cap is marked "Patent applied for" so this is probably
an very early pen from Davidson. |

Warren Lancaster Blo-fill fountain pen that was made between 1915 and
1920. The barrel is marked Springfield Mass. The nib is warranted, but I
believe it is original. The vent hole in the nib has a unique shape that I
have seen in AA Waterman and Lancaster pens. The feed has a patent date,
when I looked it up, the patent belongs to Julius Schnell.

This pen is a really smooth writer. It is oxidized but this is a hard pen
to find. I believe the nib is original, even though it is not
signed. Lancaster pens were made by the Colonial Pen co which seems to
have moved around a lot. This pen was probably a leftover Springfield made
pen and was sold after the move to Baltimore. They probably used the
Warranted nibs to prevent any of them coming back for warranty repairs. |

Presto oversize fountain pen that was made in the USA in the 1920s.
This pen is made of green bakelite. It is not catalin style bakelite it is
more of the type used in insulators. It is a lever fill pen and it has
been serviced and it is a good writer.

Engravings:

Plate wear: there
is a little wear on the ball of the clip
Imprint: Presto
Imprint location:

Filling system:
lever fill
This is a great example of a Presto pen. It is a good writer. Bakelite
was not used much for fountain pens because it was very brittle and the
barrel threads were prone to wearing down. Very unusual color. This
model has the barrel threads on the section, it is one piece. I know a lot
of these pens are broken at the barrel threads, so this may be a later
improved model. The barrel also has a brass liner inside that the section
slips into. I don't know if these was a factory update or a second
version, but it does seem to have fixed the problem. |

Vintage match safe that was probably given away by the Spencerian Steel
Pen Co. It measures 1" wide and 2 3/4" tall. It has some wear on
the nickel plate and lots of small nicks, so it is far from mint. I tried
to date it using the information on it. Spencerian started business
in 1858. The company who made the match safe Somers Bros started business
in 1869. The logo on the side was used back in the 1890s, so it
is probably from the late 1800s, but it would take much more research to
track down the actual date. The end plate has spring tension to hold it
open and closed. There is a striker on the bottom. It is an interesting
piece. Guaranteed to be a vintage match safe. |

Vasa fountain pen that was made in the USA in the 1930s. It is a
celluloid eyedropper fill pen, which is very unusual. It is unused. The
barrel appears lighter than the cap, but this was planned so you could see
the ink inside. Also when full, the color usually would match.

1930s
Country of Origin:

Cap Material:

Barrel Material:

there are some marks, but I believe they are all factory defects

This is a very unusual pen. You don't see too many plastic eyedroppers. I
don't know anything about the origin of the name "Vasa". I have had
some similar pens that were sold by Eberhard Faber. |

10
Year Pen thumb fill fountain pen that was made in the USA after 1905.
The pen is marked with George B Graff as manager of the company. I
did a quick search and found that he owned the Graff pencil sharpener
company and I guess he was trying to get into the fountain pen field
with this pen.

Ideal The 10 Year Pen Pat Sept 19 05 Geo. B. Graff Manager Boston Mass
Imprint Location:

Imprint Condition:
weak in spots but it is readable
Filling System:
thumb Fill
This is a uncommon pen. Graff sold pencil sharpeners and decided to sell
some pens also. I don't know if the "10 Year" markings meant it was
guaranteed for 10 years, but it sounds like a good guess. There is no
iridium on the nib, but it is a good smooth writer. The pen is oxidized
and the chasing is worn. There was a slip on clip on the cap and as usual
it has wreaked havoc with the cap leaving some dents and some spots that
aren't oxidized where it was sitting. The pen fills properly but the
floating pressure bar could conceivably come out of place since it has no
anchoring to keep it there. The bottom half of the barrel will pull right
off because he did not include any kind of stop to prevent it. Overall not
a bad design, but it could have used a bit more improvement. |

This is a nice hard rubber combo. The names PenNpencil and Twinpoint both
make you think that this was a prolific combo maker, but there pens just
aren't that common. It makes me think that they were making parts or pens
for other companies. The pen writes smooth. The thin band separating the
pencil barrel and the pen barrel appears to be rippled hard rubber. The
pencil does work. |
