Marathon oversize fountain pen that was made in the USA in the late
1920s. The color of the pen is sometimes referred to as cracked ice. This
is a variation of that color in that it is cream colored with burgundy
veins. Marathon was a pen maker in NYC that made pens that closely
resembled Morrison and Eclipse. It is a lever fill pen and it has been
serviced.

This is a great example of a big Marathon pen. Beautiful and unusual
color. The color isn't perfect on this pen but it is rare to find this
color with perfect color. Ther barrel and the bottom of the cap have
yellowed from age [or contact with the rubber parts of the pen]. The trim
on this pens was only plated, so it is hard to find them with any gold
left on the trim, this pen has almost all of it's plating. |

Excellent writing pen with a smooth nib. Outstanding look with the jade
end caps. This Parker Row is slightly shorter than others I have had. The
thin cap band is also odd. If you took notice of the large vent hole in
the nib, you may recognize that most of the Park Row pens have that large
vent hole [probably the original nib]. |

Eagle coin filler fountain pen that was made in the USA in the 1920s.
This pen was made by the Eagle pencil company. Eagle made this pen
for many years, I'm not sure of the first year, but they definitely
were selling them in the 1920s. You simply pushed a coin into the slot in
the barrel and pressed the pressure bar to fill the pen.
Maker: Eagle
Size: standard
Color:
orange
Year:
1920s
Country of Origin:
USA
Cap Material:
brass
Barrel Material:
brass
Cap Style:
slip on
Trim Material:
gold washed
Length with cap on: 5"
Nib Marking:
Marvel
Nib Material:
gold plated
Working condition:
It has not been serviced
Scratches or Cracks:
there are some chips on the enameled finish
Engravings:
None
Plate wear:
there is some wear on the gold washed clip
Imprint: Eagle
Pencil Co
Imprint location:
clip
Filling system:
coin fill
This is a nice bright example of an Eagle coin filler pen. These coin
filler pens were a factory alteration of their old glass cartridge pen
that were sold way back in the 1890s. The slot in the barrel and the
pressure bar were added and even the section is the one that would accept
the glass cartridge. I noticed that in the 1920s these pens were sold by
Eagle for $7.50 a dozen to dealers. |

Marxton fountain pen that was made in the USA in
late 1920s or early 30s. This is a lever fill pen. It has been
serviced and it is a good smooth writer. Marxton was Eclipse's
lower line of pens. They were named for the owner of Eclipse Marx Finstone.
This pen has a gold filled lever and cap band, but the clip is nickel. I
would guess that they were trying to use up the nickel clips and had put a
gold wash on it that has worn off from use. This pen was made from rod
stock, not tubes.
Maker: Marxton
Size: standard
Color: cream and black marbled
Year: 1930s
Country of Origin: USA
Cap Material:
plastic
Barrel Material:
plastic
Style: balance / streamlined
Cap Style: screw on
Trim Material: gold filled cap band and lever, but nickel clip
Length with cap on: 5 5/16"
Nib Marking:
Warranted 14K
Nib Material:
14K Gold
Nib Flexibility: almost a full flex
Nib Width (tip): medium
Working condition:
It has just been serviced
Scratches or Cracks: none
Engravings: None
Plate wear: I think the clip has lost
it's gold wash
Imprint: Marxton on
clip
Imprint Condition:
perfect
Filling system:
lever fill
Nice writing pen with a smooth nib. Nice color. This pen has the "generic"
lever that mimicked the earlier Eclipse marked levers, but it just had
lines on it instead of letters. That way one lever could be used on
Eclipse or the lower line pens. |

Lincoln eyedropper fill fountain pen that was made
in the USA in 1899-1901. Frazer and Geyer were partners with Arthur
Waterman at this time and this pen uses the feed that Waterman controlled
the patent for. The nib is marked Frazer + Co.
Maker: Frazer + Geyer
Model: style #5 [according to their
catalog, not marked on pen]
Color: black
Year: 1899-1901
Country of Origin: USA
Cap Material:
hard rubber
Barrel Material:
hard rubber
Cap Style: slip on
Trim Material: nickel
Length with cap on: 5 1/8"
Nib Marking: Frazer
& Co New York No 2
Nib Material:
14K Gold
Nib Flexibility: full flex
Nib Width (tip):
fine
Working Condition: I did not
test this pen
Scratches or Cracks: there is a crack
in the section behind the nib
Engravings: None
Imprint: Ideal The Lincoln Pat July
20 1897
Imprint Location: barrel
Imprint Condition: perfect
Filling System: Eyedropper Fill
This is a near mint pen except for the crack in the section. The crack
runs from the outer edge of the section down about 1/4". I don't think ink
will leak out of the crack, but I didn't want to try it. The nib needs to
be set down better, but I didn't want to push it in all the way out of
fear of making the crack worst. This is a great piece of early pen
history, even with the crack. |

Camel fountain pen that was made in the USA in the
1930s. It has the 2 Camel barrel imprint. It does have some cracks, but it
has outstanding color.
Maker: Camel
Color: green pearl marbled
Year: 1930s
Country of Origin: USA
Cap Material: plastic
Barrel Material: Plastic
Style: streamlined
Cap Style: screw on
Trim Material: gold filled
Length with cap on: 4 13/16"
Nib Marking:
Camel 14K
Nib Material:
14K Gold [the
iridium is gone]
Working Condition: not serviced and
not working
Scratches or Cracks: no scratches but
there is a tiny crack in the barrel threads and 2 cracks in the cap lip
going up to the low cap band
Engravings: None
Plate wear: none
Imprint: Camel Pen Co Orange NJ USA
US Pat 2024228 [plus the 2 Camels on the other side]
Imprint Location: barrel
Imprint Condition: good
Filling System: button filler
[bladder style]
This is a great looking Camel pen. These pens were originally
ink-maker pens that you just filled with water, but later they were filled
with ink when the pellets didn't work. The crack in the barrel threads is
about 2mm long, it is minor. The 2 cracks in the cap lip are really
separations in the color. The nib has no iridium. Normally I would have
serviced this pen, but I left it alone because of the nib having no
iridium. The flaws in this pen are greatly overshadowed by the outstanding
color. The pens in this color didn't hold up well over the years, this may
be a best example of this pen you will ever find. |

Morrison's fountain pen that was made in the USA in
1940s. Includes the original box and warranty paper. The back of the paper
explains how it has their new Unipress filler which it claims will give
equal pressure to the full length of the bladder. It is basically a j-bar
with a flat bar attached.
Maker: Morrison's
Color: black
Year: 1940s
Country of Origin: USA
Cap Material:
plastic
Barrel Material:
plastic
Cap Style: screw on
Trim Material: chrome plate
Length with cap on: 5 5/16"
Nib Marking: none
Nib Material: steel
Nib Flexibility: stiff
Nib Width (tip):
medium
Working Condition: It has not
been serviced
Scratches or Cracks: none
Engravings: None
Plate wear: none
Imprint: Morrison's
Imprint Location: barrel
Imprint Condition: good
Filling System: Lever Filler
This is an interesting Morrison's. Not a great pen, but a decent
quality pen that belongs in someone's Morrison collection. The
bladder seems good, but I did not test it and I don't recommend using 50
year old bladders. The flap on one end of the box is loose. |

[needs to be serviced]

fine cracks near the clip hole and a crack in the nickel overlay covering
the section
Engravings: None
Plate wear: none
Imprint: Chas H Ingersoll Dollar Pen
Imprint Condition: good
Filling System:
twist
This is a great example of a classic Dollar pen [they sold for one
dollar]. This is a great example that wasn't used much. I've never
serviced one of these and I did not feel any need to start with this one.
The crack in the section is only the nickel overlay, not in the section
itself. These pens are hard to find in nice condition. |

Kendrick
& Jefferson fountain pen in black chased hard rubber - 5 5/16",
lever fill, Kendrick & Jefferson gold nib (medium), made in West
Bromwich, England, marked " "K & J Superpen",
clipless, comes
with a K & J slip on clip which I refuse to reinstall (slip on clips
ruin pens). Top of cap has a pink insert (probably casein).
The pen is restored - it fills properly & writes well (smooth &
wet), Some oxidation & the chasing is worn from use.
Good overall condition. |
